Searching for King Sejong at Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul
My friend and I are watching Running Man, one of the famous South Korean variety show, on a regular basis. And due to that reason alone, we kinda want to see the statue of King Sejong at Gwanghwamun Square. This square has been used as shooting location for Running Man on various occasions.
Gwanghwamun Square was built by reducing 16 main lanes into 10 lanes. This area is a busy area and usually is filled with traffic. Now, Gwanghwamun Square is an area filled with historic story and it is also a square which is often visited by Seoulites. Looking at the decoration of the square, the square is really a nice place to enjoy an evening stroll.
Here lies the statue of King Sejong, who introduce the Hangeul (i.e. Korean alphabet) which is used up to these days.
At the other side of the square, there is another statue. This is the statue of Admiral Yi Sun Shin, which is recognised for his heroic act against the Japanese during the war time.
The fountain surrounding the Admiral is a symbol to his bravery during the war times. Nowadays, kids love playing with it on the summer days.
How to go to Gwanghwamun Square:
You can take the subway ride to Gwanghwamun Station and go to the connecting underground exit 1, 2 or 8.
If you are still have time, you can make your way to the nearby Samcheong-dong area to do some shopping and cafe-hopping.
