Changdeokgung Palace, Seoul (Part 2)

Changdeokgung Palace has a pretty big complex even though it is not as big as Gyeongbokgung Palace. You really need to allocate more time if you want to explore the palace deeper.

I know the stairs look pretty much daunting (and tiring too), but if you have managed to beat your...uhm...unwillingness, you will be able to see the beautiful lake of Changdeokgung Palace.

But first, let's check out this interesting stone structure which is called Taesil. The signs in Changdeokgung Palace are shown in both Korean and English.

So what is a taesil? A taesil is basically a shrine where the royal family stored the placenta and umbilical cords of their children. In 1928, the Japanese moved this taesil to Changdeokgung Palace for research.

Few steps further, you will reach a big beautiful lake of Changdeokgung Palace. I would stay longer if the weather was not too hot to bear. *sweat*

You can walk around the lake to explore the area further. There are some areas covered by shades so we took our break at those area.

Another taesil is spotted along the way.

There is a closed area named Secret Garden in Changdeokgung Palace. The garden is very beautiful during autumn. So if you want to see the palace at its best, go take your trip to Changdeokgung Palace in late October - early November.
